Flood Advisory Update

Ft. Simcoe Road and Hawk Road are now open to traffic.

Roads still closed are W. Satus Rd., and Harrah Road between Marion Drain Road and Pumphouse Rd.

Flood Advisory

Due to heavy rain some small streams in Yakima County are experiencing flooding causing water and debris to cover roads along Ahtanum Creek, the Wenas Valley and in Lower Valley.   W. Satus Road is closed between Spencer Rd. and SR 22, Marion Drain Rd. closed between Shaker Church Rd. and Pom Pom Rd., water is reported over roadway at Fink and Longmire Rds., Fort Simcoe Rd is closed from park to Hawk Rd., and at Lynch Ln.  Hawk Road is also closed between W. White Swan and Ft. Simcoe Rd., impassable by all vehicles.   Ahtanum Creek is flowing 1 ft. over roadway and close to flowing over road at Emma Ln.  The situation is being closely monitored.  More information will be forthcoming as it becomes available.

The Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management has received word from dispatch that the fire is now contained.

White Swan Fire 2012 (post#2)

   Lower Valley Fire Captain Joel Byam says if the fire jumps one road, homes will be threatened. He says at least 30 trucks are on the scene of the fire with 5 crews from the Upper Valley and 7 from the Lower Valley. Winds were reported at 24 mph and gusts of up 41 at noon today. A 150 acres are burning in White Swan in the area of Wesley Rd. and W. White Swan Rd. Officials say two structures have burned and it is not contained.

School officials at White Swan High School have been tracking the fire, and have canceled after school sports practices and sent all staff home from their White Swan campus, said Henry Strom, superintendent for the Mt. Adams School District.The school already was scheduled for an early release at 1 p.m. Monday, and bus routes for students have not been changed for the fire, Strom said.

Whiteswan Fire 2012

Just past noon the Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management was notified of a large fire on in the Whiteswan area. Whiteswan in an unincorporated city on the Confederated Tribes of the Yakama Nation Reservation.

Damage from the January16-23 Weather Event

The Small Business Administration (SBA) has two loan programs which may assist victims of disasters. These are the Physical Disaster Loan Program, which basically requires that 25 residences and/or businesses suffer uninsured loss in excess of 40%; and the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program, which can be requested if 5 or more businesses suffer economic harm from the event, even if they’re physically undamaged. (The latter program is not very well known).


I’m attaching a short survey form for use in supporting an EIDL request. If you believe your businesses in Yakima County was affected by the January 16-23 weather event, please report the impact.                                                           ###

Winter Readiness Reminders



 Yakima, WASH- The State Enhanced 911 Office and local telephone carriers remind citizens in the affected area:



 To stay off the telephone unless you have a critical need to make a telephone call. Remember a FAX or a computer also uses a telephone line and its use may affect your ability to get immediate help in a life-threatening emergency.


 DO NOT call 9-1-1 unless you need an emergency response from police, fire or emergency medical personnel. DO NOT call 9-1-1 unnecessarily. 9-1-1 lines must be kept open for people who have a true emergency.


 If you experience other types of problems not related to these emergency services, call the appropriate telephone number for those services.


 If you pick up your telephone to make a call and do not hear dial tone, DO NOT HANG UP. Simply wait a few seconds, and you will get dial tone and be able to make your call.


Residents in the state should consider the following preparedness actions:


 Listen to radio or television stations for local information and weather reports.


 Do not use charcoal or gas grills to cook or heat indoors.


 If you must travel, assemble an emergency auto kit, stay on main roads, follow traffic instructions.


 If the power goes out, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to keep food frozen up to two days.


 Provide assistance to your neighbors, especially the elderly or disabled.
 
   Winter weather could mean power outages and increased chances of carbon monoxide poisoning. That kind of poisoning is the result of poorly ventilated generators or using charcoal or gas grills to cook or heat indoors.
